Jack Maynard Hopkins

Corporal Jack Maynard Hopkins was born on April 11, 1944 in Grand Rapids, Michigan  to Mr. and Mrs. Charles X. Hopkins of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Jack is a 1963 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in July of 1963. He began his tour of duty in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam in April of 1965 serving as a Field Artillery Cannoneer with K Battery, 4th Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Forces.

Corporal Hopkins was severely wounded on February 27, 1966 when the jeep he was riding in detonated an enemy land mine. He was Med-Evac'd to Clark Air Force Base Hospital in the Phillipines suffering from compound fractures of his right leg, multiple fractures of his left heal, and a cerebal concussion. Jack died of his wounds on March 2, 1966.

Jack Maynard Hopkins is survived by his parents and a brother, Charles X. Hopkins, who is also serving in the Marine Corps in South Vietnam. He lived 21 years, 10 months and 21 days. He is resting in Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jack's name is listed on the Vietnam Memorial in Ypsilanti Township under Ypsilanti. His name also appears on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC on Panel 05E Line 095.
