bryanjamesStorekeeper Third Class James Michael Bryan was born on November 2, 1946 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace R. Bryan. James is a 1964 graduate of Milan High School. He attended Cleary College prior to entering the Navy on December 29, 1965.

Storekeeper Third Class Bryan was stationed at Da Nang, Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam where he served with Supply Operations, Naval Support Activity Danang. On May 14, 1967, James was riding in a truck as a passenger returning to base when the truck became involved in an accident. He was thrown from the truck receiving multiple concussions and died before he arrived at the Base Hospital.

James Michael Bryan is survived by his parents and one brother. He lived 20 years, 6 months and 12 days. James was posthumously awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the National Defense Medal and the Vietnamese Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. The Navy Unit Commendation citation reads, "For exceptionallly meritorious service from May 1966 to 1967, in carrying out the vital and constantly mounting task of unloading, moving and storing supplies to support the expanding tactical forces...despite extremely adverse climatic conditions, shortages of equipment andpersonnel,...continuous exposure to attack."


James Bryan is now resting in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. James' name is listed on the Vietnam Memorial located in Ypsilanti Township under Milan. His name also appears on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC on Panel 19E Line 115.
